Newbury Park kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They were beaten by the Millikan Rams 49-20. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rams apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Newbury Park's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brady Smigiel, who threw for 327 yards and a pair of TDs, and also punched in one score on the ground. Tyler Stromsoe helped Smigiel out on the ground, rushing for 110 yards, while also picking up 60 receiving yards.

Millikan has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newbury Park will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Arroyo Grande at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
