Baseball Game Preview: Duchesne Pioneers vs. St. Charles Pirates

The Duchesne Pioneers will take on the St. Charles Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Duchesne's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so St. Charles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Duchesne took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They blew past Clayton 10-3. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Pioneers considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Gavin Moffitt looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jaymeson Forest and T.J. Griese did most of the damage at the plate: Forest went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Griese went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. Those two runs gave Griese a new career-high. Jack Burle was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Meanwhile, St. Charles came into Saturday's game having lost eight straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Lutheran by a score of 5-2 on Saturday.

Duchesne pushed their record up to 23-9 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for St. Charles, their victory bumped their record up to 12-17.

Everything went Duchesne's way against St. Charles in their previous meeting back in March, as Duchesne made off with an 11-1 win. Will the Pioneers repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
