Softball Recap: Giles Drops Season-High Score on Narrows

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Giles). They put the hurt on the Narrows Green Waves with a sharp 23-1 victory on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Green Waves: they've now won four in a row.

Addie Lowry was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Peyton Evans was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Addison Hylton, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one triple and two RBI.

Giles was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Giles pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.7 runs over those games. As for Narrows, they are on a 20-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Coming up, Giles will host Fort Chiswell at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Narrows, they will head out to square off against Eastern Montgomery at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Green Waves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season.
