Softball Game Preview: Toms River South Indians vs. Toms River North Mariners

A classic North v. South matchup is on the schedule. The Toms River South Indians will look to defend their home field on Monday against the Toms River North Mariners at 7:00 p.m. Toms River South is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

On Saturday, Toms River South got the win against Freehold Boro by a conclusive 19-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Indians.

Charlotte Supino made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Supino was even better at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with six RBI and one double. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Addison Tuper was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Minerie Sanchez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Toms River South was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Freehold Boro only posted a batting average of .222.

Meanwhile, Toms River North was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 10-0 to Barnegat. Considering the last time the Mariners couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

The win got Toms River South back to even at 7-7. As for Toms River North, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-14.

Toms River South beat Toms River North 7-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mariners turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
