Softball Game Preview: Deer Park Stags vs. Colville Crimson Hawks

Deer Park and Colville are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Deer Park will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.

While Deer Park didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Clarkston 13-3 last Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Stags, who have now won eight matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Lucy Lathrop was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. She has been hot, having posted three or more RBI the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jillian Marshall, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double.

Lathrop wasn't the only one making solid contact: Deer Park kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Colville posted their closest win since May 10, 2024 last Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Northwest Christian School 9-8. The victory was familiar territory for the Crimson Hawks, who have now won three contests in a row.

Colville pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Deer Park, their record is now 10-0.

Deer Park couldn't quite finish off Colville when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 7-5. Can the Stags avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
