Baseball Recap: Rockport Vikings vs. Newburyport Clippers
Rockport extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 2-8 in the process. They lost 9-0 to the Newburyport Clippers. If the Vikings were looking for revenge after losing 8-1 to the Clippers when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for Newburyport, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. That looming 9-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.
For Newburyport's part, not much got past Evan Luekens, who gave up just four hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Rockport off the board. Luekens has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Parker Johnson was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Ray Arcand was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Rockport will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Hamilton-Wenham Regional at 6:30 p.m. As for Newburyport, they will venture away from home to take on Triton Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
