Basketball Recap: Valparaiso Takes a Loss

Valparaiso was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 42-41 heartbreaker at the hands of the Michigan City Wolves. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wolves apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Valparaiso lost, don't look at Caden Crowell. Despite the final result, he went 6 of 9 en route to 14 points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Trenten Kimes, who posted six points.

Michigan City was led to victory by Taquerion Vanburen and Anthony Murphy. Vanburen put up nine points and six boards, while Murphy had 16 points and five rebounds. Owen Esiele also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Valparaiso's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Michigan City, the victory snapped their losing streak at six games and leaves them with a 6-6 record.

Valparaiso wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 71-66 defeat against South Bend Washington on the 18th. Michigan City has also already played their next game (against Elkhart), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
