With a new high school sports year just about to start, we take a look back at the best of the best from 2021-22 as captured by members of the MaxPreps Professional Photographers Network.

Photographers in the network submitted images for consideration from pro galleries on MaxPreps that were published between Aug. 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022. These are the monthly award winners and the MaxPreps Photos of the Year for 2021-22.

Our June Photo of the Month features Legacy right fielder Marcus Romero with a run-saving, inning-ending catch in the Lightning's Colorado 5A final against Broomfield. Romero's snag saved two runs from scoring, but Broomfield ultimately took the win and the title, 7-6.

He lost his left arm in a childhood accident, and became a viral dunking sensation. But he's got game as well  in this moment captured with a mounted, remote camera behind the backboard during the City of Palms tournament.
