Basketball Recap: Matthew Burton's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Faith Christian over James River

Faith Christian lost against James River back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Faith Christian Warriors fell 32-24 to the James River Knights. The matchup marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Faith Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew Burton, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 12 points and seven rebounds. That was a full 50% of Faith Christian's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Cooper Childress was another key player, putting up four points.

Faith Christian's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for James River, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Faith Christian will welcome King's Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for James River, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Floyd County at 7:00 p.m.
