Softball Game Preview: Spencer County Bears vs. Pleasure Ridge Park Panthers

The Spencer County Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Pleasure Ridge Park Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Spencer County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.

Spencer County's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Whitefield Academy with a sharp 10-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bears.

Spencer County got a great performance from Annalee Wood as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. Wood has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kaylen Newton was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most triples she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Hunt, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Spencer County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Pleasure Ridge Park faced Male in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Panthers lost 11-1 to the Bulldogs. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost seven in a row.

Kendra Lee was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.

Pleasure Ridge Park's defeat dropped their record down to 39-5. As for Spencer County, the victory got them back to even at 11-11.

Spencer County might still be hurting after the 17-5 loss they got from Pleasure Ridge Park in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
