Game recap: Mountain View High School Football Team defeats Cienega

VAIL, Ariz. - After taking the lead in the fourth quarter, Mountain View (Tucson, Ariz.) held on for a 19-17 victory over Cienega (Vail, Ariz.) on Saturday. The difference for the Mountain Lions was Corbin Gouby ran for a touchdown.

The Bobcats pulled ahead on a passing touchdown, and subsequently went into halftime leading 17-7. The Mountain Lions scored the winning points with a Gouby touchdown run that came in the fourth quarter.

Despite scoring six points in the third, Mountain View still trailed by 4 points going into the fourth quarter. But six points in the fourth helped MV pull out the victory.

The loss snapped Cienega's 5-game winning streak.

The Tucson school's most effective player was Richie Estrada. The junior running back ran for one touchdown. He has now scored 20 touchdowns on the season.



The Mountain Lions went into the matchup giving up only 15.0 points per game. The 17 points that CHS ended with were well below its average of 35.4 coming into the game.

The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which the Vail school took, 31-3.

The defeat comes as a step back for Cienega, which notched a 50-6 victory over Douglas in its previous outing. With the win Mountain View extended its winning streak to four games.
