Baseball Game Preview: Etna Lions vs. Weed Cougars

Etna is a perfect 10-0 against Weed since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Lions will look to defend their home field against the Cougars at 2:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Etna's favor as the team sits on ten straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Weed has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.

Etna is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Trinity with a sharp 30-1 win on Friday. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Wolves recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Clayton Harris made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Etna got a massive performance out of Noah Hubbard, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave Hubbard a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jacob O'Brien, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles.

Etna always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .708. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Weed lost 12-4 to Mt. Shasta on Friday.

Etna's win bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Weed, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.

Etna took their victory against Weed in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
