Basketball Recap: Uwharrie Charter Academy Comes Up Short

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Uwharrie Charter Academy couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They took a blow against the Albemarle Bulldogs on Tuesday, falling 79-35. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost three in a row.

Despite the loss, Uwharrie Charter Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kayla Brown posted ten points and five boards. Brown is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Lainey Thomas, who had ten points.

Uwharrie Charter Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 24-8. As for Albemarle, the win (which was their 16th in a row) raised their record to 25-4.

Uwharrie Charter Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Albemarle, they will square off against Cherokee at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Cherokee has won ten straight at home, while Albemarle won six straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
