Softball Recap: Stevenson Takes a Loss

Stevenson dropped their record down to 12-6-1 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Howell Highlanders by a score of 2-1. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Spartans couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Howell, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-11-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games.

For Howell's part, Gianna Gentile made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Gentile has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. That's the most hits she has posted over her last ten contests.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zoey Overton, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one run and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Leighton Scott was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.

While Stevenson had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
