Softball Preview: North Johnston Panthers vs. Eastern Wayne Warriors
The North Johnston Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Eastern Wayne Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. North Johnston hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.
Back in March, North Johnston sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over Spring Creek. The win was just what North Johnston needed coming off of a 13-1 defeat in their prior contest.
Meanwhile, Eastern Wayne put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Beddingfield as Eastern Wayne made off with a 9-0 victory.
Mallory Reed was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Reed has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts every time she's pitched this season. Reed was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Hannah Lee was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with a home run, three stolen bases, and four RBI.
North Johnston's record now sits at 3-4. As for Eastern Wayne, their record is now 5-3.
North Johnston skirted past Eastern Wayne 3-2 in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for North Johnston since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
