Softball Game Preview: Westmoreland Eagles vs. Chancellor Chargers

The Westmoreland Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Chancellor Chargers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Westmoreland has three straight wins, Chancellor has 26 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Westmoreland is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Colonial Beach 13-2 on Thursday. With that victory, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

Emma Burgess was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Morgan Gooch, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Olivia Gallagher, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Westmoreland hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Chancellor came up short against Caroline on Friday, falling 23-2.

Chancellor's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Westmoreland, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Westmoreland suffered a grim 14-1 defeat to Chancellor in their previous meeting back in March of 2022. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
