Basketball Recap: Woodville-Tompkins Comes Up Short

Woodville-Tompkins was the 59-57 winner over Toombs County when they last played one another back in February of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Woodville-Tompkins Wolverines lost to the Toombs County Bulldogs at home by a 66-48 margin on Tuesday. The Wolverines were down 54-34 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Toombs County's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mike Polke, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 assists. Those 11 assists gave Polke a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Fletcher, who went 7 of 17 en route to 19 points and three steals.

Woodville-Tompkins dropped their record down to 9-9 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Toombs County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-8.

While Woodville-Tompkins had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
