Basketball Game Preview: South Webster Jeeps vs. Portsmouth West Senators

The South Webster Jeeps will head out on the road to take on the Portsmouth West Senators at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Both have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 13 consecutive losses for South Webster and four for Portsmouth West.

South Webster is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Waverly on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. South Webster lost 66-42 to Waverly. The Jeeps were down 59-26 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Eden Smith, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards. Those ten points gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cailee Blevins, who posted 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, South Webster smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Portsmouth West didn't have quite enough to beat Waverly on Saturday and fell 63-60. That's two games in a row now that the Senators have lost by exactly three points.

Portsmouth West's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for South Webster, their loss dropped their record down to 2-17.

Things could have been worse for South Webster, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 50-33 loss to Portsmouth West in their previous meeting back in January. Can South Webster avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
