Baseball Recap: Passaic Valley Takes a Loss

If Passaic Valley was feeling good fresh off their 9-0 takedown of Fair Lawn on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Hornets fell just short of the Cutters by a score of 5-4 on Wednesday. The Hornets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cutters earlier this season, when they won 9-0.

Shane Snell was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up five earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (one).

At the plate, Michael Liotti made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Jake Delaney also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Passaic Valley's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 10-2. As for Fair Lawn, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 2-8.

Coming up, Passaic Valley will look to defend their home field on Thursday against DePaul Catholic at 4:15 p.m. The Spartans will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Hornets surely won't give up without a fight. As for Fair Lawn, they are taking a road trip to square off against Hackensack at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
