Basketball Game Preview: McCormick Chiefs vs. Abbeville Panthers

The McCormick Chiefs will head out on the road to take on the Abbeville Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as McCormick comes in on six and Abbeville on 13.

McCormick is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing South Carolina School for the Deaf & Blind: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that McCormick blew South Carolina School for the Deaf & Blind out of the water with a 62-13 final score. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Chiefs had established a 45 point advantage.

Meanwhile, Abbeville got the win against Dixie on Friday by a conclusive 59-36. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 contests by 22 points or more this season.

McCormick's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-7. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.2 points over those games. As for Abbeville, their win bumped their record up to 15-2.

McCormick was able to grind out a solid victory over Abbeville in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, winning 66-57. The rematch might be a little tougher for McCormick since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
