Softball Recap: Walnut Comes Up Short

Walnut lost against Hamilton back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Walnut Wildcats fell just short of the Hamilton Lions by a score of 6-5.

Walnut saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brittan Dawkins, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Matti Mayo also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Walnut now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Hamilton, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Walnut will square off against Hickory Flat at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hickory Flat has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.89 runs per game on average), something Walnut will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hamilton, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Hamilton Lions take on Nettleton Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
