Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Mitchell Mustangs, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were dealt a 49-17 loss at the hands of Lakeland on Friday. While losing is never fun, Mitchell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 179th, while Lakeland is ranked 31st).

Despite the loss, Mitchell saw an underclassman step up: Corey Simms rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown.

Mitchell's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Lakeland, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Mitchell does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Lakeland has the luxury of staying home another week and will welcome Bartow at 7:30 p.m. on November 17th. Bartow comes in on a streak of failing to score more than seven points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
