Basketball Game Preview: Gibson Southern Titans vs. Heritage Hills Patriots

The Gibson Southern Titans will venture away from home to take on the Heritage Hills Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gibson Southern is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.8 points per game this season.

Gibson Southern is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Pike Central: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Gibson Southern blew Pike Central out of the water with an 81-29 final score. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-14.

Gibson Southern relied on the efforts of Kolton Schmitt, who went 7-for-9 en route to 20 points, and Connor Marvel, who made all 5 shots he took to post 12 points along with eight boards and three steals. Marvel is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last ten games he's played. Another player making a difference was Brodey Lamb, who posted 11 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds.

Gibson Southern was working as a unit and finished the game with 26 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Meanwhile, Heritage Hills didn't have too much trouble with Forest Park on Friday as they won 58-42.

Heritage Hills' win came from a few key players Gibson Southern will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Hunter Meredith, who went 6-for-9 to rack up 17 points along with six boards and three steals. Thanks to that strong game, he now owns an excellent 41.4% three-point shooting accuracy. The team also got some help courtesy of Tait Wetzel, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Gibson Southern pushed their record up to 15-5 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points over those games. As for Heritage Hills, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season.
