Basketball Recap: Covenant Christian Comes Up Short

Covenant Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat dating back to last season. They were dealt a 67-20 loss at the hands of the Port St. Joe Tiger Sharks. While losing is never fun, Covenant Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 730th, while Port St. Joe is ranked 235th).

Port St. Joe found their leader in freshman Mase Larry, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Larry has scored all season. Elijah Robinson was another key player, going 7 for 11 on his way to 16 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Covenant Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Port St. Joe, their win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1.

Covenant Christian will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Wewahitchka at 6:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Port St. Joe and Niceville will compete for holiday cheer at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Port St. Joe's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matches.
