Preview: Pleasantville Panthers vs. Lakeland Hornets
The Pleasantville Panthers will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Lakeland Hornets at 6:10 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Pleasantville sitting on eight straight victories and Lakeland on three.
Pleasantville can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They blew past Putnam Valley, posting a 38-6 win at home. Pleasantville's offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
It was another big night for Daniel Picart, who picked up 78 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Aiden Picart, who threw for 147 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 passes.
Meanwhile, Lakeland didn't have too much trouble with Pearl River on the road on Friday as they won 35-21.
Lakeland got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Grady Leonard out in front who threw for 185 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Kyle Gallagher was another key contributor, picking up 127 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Pleasantville's victory was their tenth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 8-0. As for Lakeland, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Pleasantville has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 187 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Lakeland, though, as they've been averaging only 82.1 per game. How will Lakeland fare against such a dominant running game?
Pleasantville strolled past Lakeland in their previous matchup back in September by a score of 31-16. Will Pleasantville repeat their success, or does Lakeland have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
