Softball Preview: Lowell Red Devils vs. Highland Trojans

The Lowell Red Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Highland Trojans at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Saturday, Lowell didn't have quite enough to beat Andrean and fell 3-2. Lowell has not had much luck with Andrean recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Kaylee Meeks spent all seven innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits.

At the plate, Chole Cora made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a double. Olivia Fuentes was another key contributor, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Highland came up short against Valparaiso on Saturday and fell 9-4.

Hailey Thomas was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with a triple, a stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Evie Rivera, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.

Even though they lost, Highland didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with seven strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Valparaiso only tossed three.

Lowell's record now sits at 0-2. As for Highland, their record now sits at 1-1.

Lowell was able to grind out a solid win over Highland in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, winning 3-0. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Highland's Mia Rivera, who struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Now that she won't be playing on Monday, will it be that much easier for Lowell to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
