Basketball Recap: Cornerstone Charter Cardinals vs. Winston-Salem Prep Phoenix
Cornerstone Charter lost against Winston-Salem Prep back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Cornerstone Charter Cardinals were beaten by the Winston-Salem Prep Phoenix 81-36. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 433rd, while the Phoenix are ranked 175th).

Cornerstone Charter's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Spencer Knight, who posted ten points and six rebounds. Knight is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played. Charles Walker was another key player, going 5-for-9 to rack up 10 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Winston-Salem Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jace Covington, who put up 16 points. Another player making a difference was Brandon Rorie, who earned 15 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Cornerstone Charter and nudges their season record down to 12-11. As for Winston-Salem Prep, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-5.
Cornerstone Charter wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 61-49 defeat against Piedmont Classical on the 12th. As for Winston-Salem Prep, they will host Leadership Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Winston-Salem Prep is facing Leadership Academy at the right time seeing as Leadership Academy is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
