Volleyball Recap: Sheridan Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Sheridan unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They came up short against the Crawfordsville Athenians on Monday, falling 3-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Blackhawks have suffered since September 26, 2024.

The final score came out to 25-16, 25-16, 25-18.

Lainey Mendenhall paced Sheridan's offense, picking up eight kills. Mendenhall got some help from Adria Jump and her 11 assists. Mendenhall was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.

Crawfordsville was led to victory by Alayna Hall and Claire Peacock. Hall had 11 digs and three assists, while Peacock hit 100% for five kills and eight digs, three blocks, and two aces. Peacock has been hot for a while, having also posted 12 or more assists the last 13 times she's played.

Crawfordsville's record now sits at 3-1.

Sheridan and Crawfordsville will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Blackhawks are set to face off against their familiar foe Clinton Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Crawfordsville will challenge rival Greencastle at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
