Softball Game Preview: Edgewood Lions vs. Rancho Mirage Rattlers

The Edgewood Lions will face off against the Rancho Mirage Rattlers at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Edgewood is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over Sacred Heart of Jesus. The victory was familiar territory for the Lions, who have now won three games in a row.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Rancho Mirage made sure to put some runs up on the board against Hesperia Christian on Saturday. The Rattlers blew past the Patriots 23-10. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rattlers.

Anelisa Garcia made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and eight unearned) runs off 11 hits. Garcia was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Rancho Mirage got a massive performance out of Reyna Vergara, who went 2-for-5 with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI Vergara has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Dayanara Marquez, who went 4-for-6 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

Rancho Mirage kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are 9-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Edgewood pushed their record up to 6-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Rancho Mirage, their record now sits at 16-10.
