Basketball Recap: Sumner Drops Highest Score of Season Against Gulf

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sumner). They enjoyed a cozy 74-59 win over the Gulf Buccaneers on Saturday. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Stingrays with their most commanding win of the season.

Sumner's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Immanuel Kelly, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten boards. Kelly is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Bennard Anson was another key player, shooting 54% from the field on his way to 18 points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Gulf lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Antwon Brown, who went 5-for-8 en route to 13 points and six assists. Another player making a difference was Victor Sowney, who posted 12 points.

Sumner now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Gulf, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Coming up, Sumner will welcome Morgan at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Stingrays will be up against the Mustangs' rather soft defense (which has allowed 67 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Gulf, they will head out on the road to take on Hudson at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
