Softball Recap: Zumbrota-Mazeppa Comes Up Short

Zumbrota-Mazeppa had lost five straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 4-8 to make it six. They came up short against the Caledonia Warriors, falling 15-1. The contest marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

As for Caledonia, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-4. Considering they have won 11 matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

For Caledonia's part, Avery Augedahl made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Augedahl has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lily Wiebke, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Paizley Lange, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

As of now, neither Zumbrota-Mazeppa nor Caledonia have any future games scheduled.
