The Marshall Lions are taking a road trip to square off against the Heritage Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Marshall is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.
Marshall barely beat Westville the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lions blew past the Tigers 16-9 on Thursday. The Lions have beaten the Tigers the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Tigers has come to flipping the script.
Haley McGuire made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lynn Welborn, who fired off three home runs, four runs, and two stolen bases while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (five). Another player making a difference was McKenzie Davis, who went 4-for-5 with one home run and three RBI.
Marshall lost a few balls and finished the game with six home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Heritage was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 19th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Sullivan, falling 17-0.
Heritage saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Faith Latham, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double.
Marshall's record is now 16-6. As for Heritage, their loss dropped their record down to 0-16.
Heritage's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Marshall hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .388.
