Recap: West Mesa Mustangs vs. Sandia Prep Sundevils

After flying high against Menaul/Oak Grove on Friday, West Mesa came back down to earth. The West Mesa Mustangs took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sandia Prep Sundevils on Saturday. West Mesa was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Sandia Prep apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2019.

Daniel Rodriguez was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now stolen at least one in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Eric Romero, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a double.

On Sandia Prep's side, they got a massive performance out of Landon Hardcastle, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Matteo Herrera, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

West Mesa's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Sandia Prep, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Mesa will take on Cibola at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sandia Prep, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on New Mexico Military Institute at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
