Baseball Game Preview: Dawson Eagles vs. La Porte Bulldogs

The Dawson Eagles are taking a road trip to face off against the La Porte Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Dawson 3.5, La Porte 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

While Dawson's win against Manvel wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles won by a run and slipped past the Mavericks 3-2. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Mavericks: they've now won four in a row.

Dawson got a great performance from Bennett Schnee as he pitched 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Maddox Botas, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Brandon Gutierrez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, La Porte had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Pioneers by a score of 4-1. That's two games straight that the Bulldogs have won by exactly three runs.

Dawson pushed their record up to 16-8 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for La Porte, their win bumped their record up to 17-10.

Dawson skirted past La Porte 15-14 in their previous meeting back in May of 2015. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
