Basketball Recap: IMG Academy Black Comes Up Short

IMG Academy Black was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss dating back to last season. They took a hard 60-46 fall against the Winthrop College Prep Academy Spartans. While losing is never fun, the Ascenders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 612th, while the Spartans are ranked 281st).

Kai Brookins continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Winthrop College Prep Academy, going 6 for 11 on his way to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaiden Martin, who went 5 of 12 en route to 10 points.

IMG Academy Black's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Winthrop College Prep Academy, they moved to 6-4 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

IMG Academy Black will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Tampa Prep at 12:00 p.m. on January 18, 2025. As for Winthrop College Prep Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-55 defeat against Bell Creek Academy on the 13th.
