Football Game Preview: Mallard Creek Mavericks vs. Chambers Cougars + How To Watch

Mallard Creek and Chambers are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2016, but not for long. The Mavericks will challenge the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Chambers took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Mallard Creek, who comes in off a win.

Mallard Creek took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past Butler 44-22. The matchup marked the Mavericks' most dominant victory of the season.

Xavier Edmond went supernova, rushing for 163 yards and two TDs on only nine carries. Those 163 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cailen Napier, who threw for 285 yards and one touchdown while picking up 11.0 yards per attempt.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Mallard Creek was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 258 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Mallard Creek didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kyle Crump and Zaire Izien.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Chambers faced off against West Charlotte on Friday. The Cougars had to suffer through a 37-0 loss at the hands of the Lions. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Cougars were not able to get on the board.

Mallard Creek's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Chambers, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.

Everything went Mallard Creek's way against Chambers when the teams last played back in November of 2024, as Mallard Creek made off with a 44-19 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mavericks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
