Basketball Game Preview: Georgetown Day Mighty Hoppers vs. Potomac School Panthers

Georgetown Day hasn't had much luck against Potomac School recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Georgetown Day Mighty Hoppers are taking a road trip to square off against the Potomac School Panthers at 5:45 p.m. Potomac School took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Georgetown Day, who comes in off a win.

Georgetown Day is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They walked away with a 69-59 win over McLean on Friday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Mighty Hoppers as it spelled an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Georgetown Day's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rafriel Guthrie, who went 5 of 8 en route to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Arjun Bhargava, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 13 points and five boards.

Georgetown Day smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Potomac School is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Riviera Prep. Potomac School received a blow as they fell 50-36 to Riviera Prep.

Georgetown Day's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-8. As for Potomac School, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.

Things could have been worse for Georgetown Day, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 69-52 loss to Potomac School when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can Georgetown Day avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
