Softball Preview: Caprock Longhorns vs. Plainview Bulldogs

Caprock has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Plainview Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Wednesday, it was close, but Caprock sidestepped Tascosa for a 7-6 victory. The win was just what Caprock needed coming off of a 10-4 defeat in their prior match.

Grace Morales made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Morales has been consistent recently: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in four consecutive pitching appearances. Morales was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Annalei Valdez was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now stolen at least one in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kodi Shackelford, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with a stolen base and an RBI.

Meanwhile, while Plainview put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Trinity Christian. Plainview was the clear victor by a 17-0 margin over Trinity Christian. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Plainview.

Like Caprock, Plainview also got a great game from a two-way player: Yaneli Jaramillo. She didn't allow a single earned run and only one hit over four innings pitched. Jaramillo was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Plainview got a big performance out of Gabby Alvarez, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Amberlyn Castillo was another key contributor, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4.

Caprock is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 5-7 record this season. As for Plainview, they pushed their record up to 5-18 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.
