Baseball Game Preview: Southlands Christian Eagles vs. Coast Union Broncos

The Southlands Christian Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Coast Union Broncos at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Southlands Christian is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Calvary Chapel just ended the team's eight-game winning streak two weeks ago. They fell just short of the Grizzlies by a score of 10-9.

Cruz Mendoza made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Elijah Vargas was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Meanwhile, Coast Union was not able to break out of their rough patch last Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-0 heartbreaker at the hands of Coastal Christian. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Broncos were not able to get on the board.

Coast Union's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Southlands Christian, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 15-6.
