Basketball Recap: Bryndee Kozisek's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Layton over Syracuse

Layton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They came up short against the Syracuse Titans, falling 54-34. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lancers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 48-24 back in January.

Layton's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was BrynDee Kozisek, who went 5 for 11 on her way to 13 points. Another player making a difference was Lindsey Thurgood, who posted nine points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.

Syracuse's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kyleigh Nielson, who went 5 of 9 en route to 12 points in addition to six assists and four steals. Nielson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Maylee Anderson was another key player, going 5 for 10 to rack up 13 points and seven boards.

Layton's loss dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Syracuse, they pushed their record up to 16-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.

Layton has already played their next matchup, a 46-41 defeat against Davis on the 4th. As for Syracuse, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 48-38 win against Weber on the 4th.
