Softball Recap: Lovejoy Finds Playoff Glory Versus Midlothian Heritage

Lovejoy extended their postseason success on Thursday against Midlothian Heritage. They never let the Jaguars get on the board and left with a 6-0 win. The Leopards might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 games by six runs or more this season.

Gisela Boitmann and Izzy Guarriello made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Boitmann pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Guarriello didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Boitmann has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. At bat, Boitmann went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double, while Guarriello went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sameera Saluja, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

The victory (which was Lovejoy's fifth in a row) raised their record to 24-11. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for Midlothian Heritage, they moved to 27-8 with that defeat, which also ended their 17-game winning streak.

Lovejoy will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Jaguars: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
