Football Recap: Taylor Bradford's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Newcastle over Elgin

If Newcastle was riding high fresh off their 63-40 takedown of Blanchard last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Racers took a hard 42-24 fall against the Elgin Owls on Friday. The Racers lost against the Owls in their previous head to head back in September of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 56-14 score last time.

Newcastle lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Taylor Bradford, who rushed for 48 yards and two TDs.

Newcastle's record now sits at 2-2. As for Elgin, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.

Newcastle and Elgin should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Oklahoma Rankings. The Racers will square off against Duncan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (30 vs. 119). Meanwhile, Elgin (ranked 15th) will meet Woodward (ranked 166th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
