Baseball Game Preview: New Kent Trojans vs. Tabb Tigers

The New Kent Trojans will take on the Tabb Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (New Kent 1.8, Tabb 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

While New Kent's win against York wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Trojans narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Falcons 7-6. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Michael Hetzel and Ty Staub made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Hetzel pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Staub didn't allow a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). At bat, Hetzel went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Staub went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Bryce Hochman was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Tyler Warren was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Tabb had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Eagles. Considering the Tigers have won four matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

New Kent pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Tabb, their victory bumped their record up to 7-4.

New Kent took their win against Tabb when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 11-1 score. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
