Baseball Game Preview: South Fort Myers Wolfpack vs. Gulf Coast Sharks

The South Fort Myers Wolfpack will take on the Gulf Coast Sharks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. South Fort Myers is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.

South Fort Myers is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They skirted past Palmetto Ridge 3-2.

The team relied heavily on Owen Kircher, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. He has become a key player for South Fort Myers: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 8-12 otherwise. Will Flaherty was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Gulf Coast got themselves on the board against Golden Gate on Tuesday, but Golden Gate never followed suit. They walked away with a 4-0 win over the Titans.

Not much got past Colton Schlief, who gave up just four hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Golden Gate off the board. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Schlief.

At the plate, Gulf Coast's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Michael Peterson, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Another was Jonathan Kacinas, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Gulf Coast hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Golden Gate struck out nine times.

Gulf Coast now has a winning record of 13-12. As for South Fort Myers, their record is now 12-14.

South Fort Myers came out on top in a nail-biter against Gulf Coast in their previous meeting back in April of 2021, sneaking past 3-2. Do the Wolfpack have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Sharks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
