Basketball Recap: Newton Comes Up Short

Newton was the 49-35 winner over Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine when they last played one another two weeks ago, but their luck changed this time around. The Newton Eagles took a 56-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine.

When it comes to explaining why Newton lost on Monday, don't look at Lance Volk. Despite the final result, he went 8-for-17 en route to 23 points and six rebounds. Hayden Mulvey was another key player, putting up 11 points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Newton was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Newton has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-19 record this season. The win made it two in a row for Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine and bumps their season record up to 13-15.
