Basketball Recap: Berkeley Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Berkeley won the last time they faced Fort Dorchester and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Berkeley Stags walked away with a 45-33 victory over the Fort Dorchester Patriots. Given the Stags' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while the Patriots are ranked 110th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

When it comes to explaining why Fort Dorchester lost, don't look at Maricious Dawson. Despite the final result, he posted eight points. Jordan Wright was another key player, putting up five points and five rebounds.

Berkeley's win bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Fort Dorchester, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Berkeley will head out to square off against Lucy Beckham at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Fort Dorchester, they are taking a road trip to take on Ashley Ridge at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Ashley Ridge's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last ten matchups.
