Basketball Recap: Van Horn Takes a Loss

Van Horn was the 44-28 winner over Fort Hancock when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Van Horn Eagles came up short against the Fort Hancock Mustangs on Friday, falling 42-21. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Eagles have suffered since December 12, 2024.

Despite the loss, Van Horn still got an impressive performance from Joey Anchondo, who posted eight points and five rebounds. That was a full 38.1% of Van Horn's points, marking the seventh time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points.

Fort Hancock's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Armando Munoz led the charge by going 6 for 11 on his way to 12 points. Munoz has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Zaid Hermosillo, who scored four points and four steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Van Horn and nudges their season record down to 11-10. As for Fort Hancock, their record is now 13-9.

Van Horn wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 53-35 loss against Iraan on the 21st. Fort Hancock has also already played their next game, a 60-41 defeat against McCamey on the 21st.
