Baseball Recap: Sam Rayburn Takes a Loss

Sam Rayburn dropped their record down to 14-8-1 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 13-3 to the Tom Bean Tomcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tomcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-3 back in March.

Sam Rayburn saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cade Nichols, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. That stolen base was Nichols' first of the season.

As for Tom Bean, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 17-7 record this season. Considering they have won 13 matches by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

On Tom Bean's side, Donnie Hooten was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Hooten posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Tom Bean: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, Hagen Darney was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs. Ryan DeArmond was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Sam Rayburn does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Tom Bean, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, an 11-1 win against Bonham on the 26th.
