Softball Recap: Jefferson County Patriots vs. Morristown-Hamblen East Hurricanes

Jefferson County came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Morristown-Hamblen East Hurricanes, falling 9-1. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hurricanes apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Olivia Mottern was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mercedes Randolph made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases. Kayli Reece was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
