Basketball Recap: Commonwealth Academy Starts Season with Defeat on the Road

Commonwealth Academy kicked off their season on the road on Tuesday and hit a couple of potholes. They lost 42-18 to Barrie. If Commonwealth Academy was looking for revenge after losing 36-18 to Barrie when the teams met back in January, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Gunnar Nelson produced another solid performance almost dropping a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds for Barrie. Nelson has been hot recently, having also posted three or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Hezekiah Saunders, who posted nine points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Barrie's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3.

Commonwealth Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Yeshiva at 5:30 p.m. on January 27, 2026. As for Barrie, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Varsity Opponent at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
